Description: Presented is a very impressive and beautiful old German beer stein manufactured in the region of Thuringia – an old German state located in central Germany – around mid-1700s. Made of faience with very colorful hand-painted decorations that traditionally are associated with Tueringen factories. The decorations consist of a front and side medallions showing a flower painted in green and blue. The rest of the stein is covered with magenta sponge backround and blue, green and yellow ornaments. This is very typical for Thueringen. Nice pewter lid with a large hollow ball for the thumblift and a lip ring. There is also a nice ornate strap support. The lid is engraved initials “J-A junior” and dated 1779 it looks like junior was added later, most likely when the stein was inherited by the son of the original owner. There is also a pewter footring. The the stein is in very good condition for the age. There is no damage to the body – no chips, cracks or even hairlines. There is some glaze wear on the handle. There is also some minor pewter tear where the tang connects see pics. , but the connection is quote solid and the exterior looks excellent. These are great conditions for a beer stein that is about 2 5 0 years old. It is standing 9.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 1L capacity. I guarantee my description and dating. Condition: Very good – see description. Height: 9.5 in. Use the FREE Counters 1 million sellers do – Vendio!
